The Denton County Amateur Radio Association, DCARA, will host an Amateur Radio Technician License Class on May 24-25, 2025. This class along with study materials will prepare you to take your exam on the final day of the class.
The class includes both days, Saturday and Sunday with the exam on Sunday. You are not expected to go through the whole book prior to the class, but it helps if you do some studying ahead of time as the class goes fast. Many get a head start on the course content using many available resources.

Sunday May 25, 2025 9:00 am to 3:00 pm followed by the VE exam session at 3:00 pm

Text: The class will be based on the 2022-2026 Technician Class textbook by Gordon West W5YI. The textbook may be purchased online from Amazon. The cost of the textbook is not included in the class fee. You are not expected to go through the whole book prior to the class, but it helps if you do some studying ahead of time.
Online Study: We highly recommend that all students use the HamStudy.org web site to start studying before the class: https://hamstudy.org/tech2022 Please register for a free account and use the “Study” mode of the web site to review the exam questions and take practice tests. There are many YouTube videos covering the ham radio/amateur radio technician license test content. Popular YouTube videos by Gordon West, the author of the recommended text, reference the text.
Cost: The cost is $30.00 payable to the club’s PayPal account (use payment button below). This fee includes one attempt to pass your license exam. If you do not pass on the first attempt, you may try retaking the test for an additional $14.00 per attempt subject to availability of the testing volunteers. FCC Registration Number (FRN): EVERY student must obtain their own FRN prior to the class. Please go to the FCC web site (use link below) and follow the directions to obtain your own personal FRN. Please print out your FRN and BRING it with you to the class. You will need your FRN to take the exam on Sunday.
